Or perhaps it's the service? I've always hated the parking at this mall because it was always so difficult to find. No closing date was given for the store at Sherway Gardens. I grew up in Toronto and my parents were from the Lakeshore Mimico and Alderwood respectively so I've always had a soft spot for this part of town--a thoroughly working class old-Canadian type part of town. If Holt Renfrew were to remain in downtown Edmonton, it would require new retail space to expand. What was once my high school hangout has turned into an almost unrecognizable higher-end shopping mecca, anchored by Hudson's Bay, the new Saks 5th Ave, Holt Renfrew, and Nordstrom opening in fall 2017! The food court has all the staples: a McDonalds, Timmy Ho's, Pizza Nova, Cultures, Hero Burger my fav! Parking is sometimes lately horrendous and I often have to park across the street but I suppose the exercise is good for me. I've always hated the parking at this mall because it was always so difficult to find. Look to stay where the Titanic style Staircase meets Circus Tent Roof, known as the middle of the Mall where you can find Santa in the Winter months.
Holt Renfrew is focusing its expansion plans on creating larger stores to offer shoppers more products. There are big plush leather couches everywhere, with greenery and fountains in the space. So many new stores have entered the Sherway fray and it seems more and more are coming especially the popular American stores. The Forever 21 has great inexpensive stuff, and the Saks is for the high end folks. A leather artisan at the store will be available to add bespoke embossing details to leather accessories and offer full-service repairs.
Sherway Gardens is a long-time fan favourite of mine. Prior to that, Holt Renfrew announced that it was in the process of to update its fleet of stores, adopting a new 120,000+ square foot footprint similar to American locations. Has lots of plazas surrounding it too so it made it a great shopping area. The nicest mall breastfeeding area I've ever seen! It is unclear, however, if negotiations are ongoing or if a potential deal is off the table. The luxury retailer announced Wednesday it will relocate staff from the store to its new Square One Shopping Centre location in Mississauga, Ont. Find an Exit route and make a run for it, Good Luck.
Sherway wasn't always this way, I remember a downward trend in the late 1990s after Eaton's left and frumpy Sears took over. The two-storey Square One store is scheduled to open this summer. A great mall with everything you need. Didn't come here for a long time.
Sherway ended up going the route of the more affluent mall with newer and more popular stores and Cloverdale went the route of being the value mall. There is lots of room to walk around, comfy couches to lounge, ample parking, and clean bathrooms! At 130,000 square feet, the new Square One store will be nearly four times as large as the one at Sherway Gardens. The closure at Sherway Gardens comes as Saks Fifth Avenue gets ready to open a store in the mall on Feb. This will essentially add a 2nd American anchor the other being Saks to the mall. I find that this central location can bring visual confusion especially when there's patrons overload. The entire area along Queensway near Sherway Gardens is basically big box shopping so if you can't get it in the mall there's other stores nearby too. Saks Fifth Avenue is scheduled to open its first store in Canada at Toronto Eaton Centre on Feb.
I like this mall a little bit more than Yorkdale I really like Yorkdale too though because I find it less congested. This isn't your average mall! Go check out the Mercedes Benz near the Holiday Tree at the Sears end.
I also like looking at things I can't afford at Holt Renfrew. . Getting here is very easy as it connects directly to the 427. It's a near miracle as the mall existed before the 80s. Even during the holiday season, this place isn't super crazy.
I love Monforte creamery for their cheese! And the upper level tented food courts is awesome. The news reflects Holt's strategy to operate stores in excess of 120,000 square feet, bringing the future of its Edmonton store into question, according to one expert. The store opened in 1983 and at the time, was one of Holt's largest. The place is spotless with wide open hallways. Sherway seems to be in a constant state of evolution never standing still for too long. This mall basically has all the stores the other malls have, with the addition of asks fifth instead of holt Renfrew. Last year, Holt Renfrew president Mark Derbyshire said that the company is committed to the Edmonton market, though it's now clear that given Holt's strategy to operate stores in excess of 120,000 square feet, something is going to happen to the small, dated Edmonton store.
So many new stores have entered the Sherway fray and it seems more and more are coming especially the popular American stores. Last year, Holt Renfrew two of its smallest stores -- a 33,000 square foot unit at Quebec City's , and a 36,000 square foot store at in Ottawa. This mall is rarely every loud and rowdy, most people that come here are ready to drop their cash. Supposedly this is where a new Nordstrom will be. Because of this new section and new food court the entire south central portion is being revamped and there's a lot of construction going on for the south side of the mall now. While Sherway may not have rapid transit they do have their own highway exit going westbound on the Gardiner split at the 427 north on ramp.
